Morphology
The plant is a small undershrub or sprawling herb that forms dense mats, often developing a small caudex or tuberous root-stock. Leaves are typically succulent and can be lanceolate or rounded, arranged alternately and closely spaced. Flowers are actinomorphic, featuring two caducous sepals and five fugacious petals that may be white, pink, or pale purple. The ovary ripens into a three-valved unilocular capsule.
