Morphology

The plant grows to approximately 90 cm (35 in) tall and wide. It features dark green, velvety-textured, heart-shaped leaves with prominent white veining. The inflorescence consists of a somewhat visually-undistinguished spathe and a pale green spadix, which ripens to red berries after pollination.

Distribution & habitat

Native to rainforest margins in Central and South America, ranging from Panama to Peru.

Cultivation notes

It requires a minimum temperature of 16 °C (61 °F) and can be cultivated indoors under glass, in a growroom, or as a houseplant. While widely bred and hybridized, it is considered somewhat delicate and is not recommended for novice gardeners.
