About

A perennial sundew notable for its compact rosettes of semi-erect leaves and its ability to form an upright stem of old growth. *Drosera arenicola* is endemic to the tepui plateaus of Venezuela.

Field notes

Morphology

Forms compact rosettes of linear-spathulate, semi-erect leaves that reflex markedly as they age. The plant can attain a height of 6 cm on an upright stem of old dead growth, and its white flowers are held on short scapes up to 1.5 cm tall.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to Amazonas and Bolívar states in Venezuela, specifically found at elevations above 1,200 m (3,900 ft) including on tepui plateaus.

First described by Julian Alfred Steyermark in 1952.
