A popular perennial tuberous sundew, *Drosera macrophylla* is notable for its large, showy leaves and its common presence in the region east of Perth, Western Australia.

Morphology

The plant grows in a rosette with leaves that are 4 cm long and 2 cm wide. It flowers from June to October.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to Western Australia, specifically common east of Perth. Subspecies *D. macrophylla subsp. monantha* is abundant in the Bruce Rock/Merredin region.

History & etymology

The species was first described by John Lindley in his 1839 publication, A sketch of the vegetation of the Swan River Colony. The specific epithet macrophylla originates from Greek words makros (large) and phyllon (leaf), meaning 'large-leaved'.
