About

A notable perennial tuberous plant, *Drosera schmutzii* is endemic to Kangaroo Island in South Australia. It is easily distinguished from related species by its very narrow eglandular petioles, semi-erect leaves, and the presence of whorled leaves separate from the main basal rosette.

Morphology

The plant grows in a rosette 3 to 4 cm in diameter with green to red leaves. It also features very narrow eglandular petioles and semi-erect leaves.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to Kangaroo Island in South Australia, occurring mostly in the northern and eastern areas.

History & etymology

Discovered in September 2002 by Father Erwin Schmutz, for whom the species is named. It was formally described in 2008 by Allen Lowrie and John Godfrey Conran.
