A popular and relatively easy-to-care-for species, *Lithops lesliei* is valued both as a decorative houseplant and for its historical medicinal uses.
Field notes
Distribution & habitat
Found in the summer-rainfall areas of South Africa, typically in rocky areas of grasslands and savannah where it grows in the shade of another plant.
Cultivation notes
It requires extremely well-drained soil and follows an annual cycle where new leaf-pairs replace the old ones. It should be kept dry from when it finishes flowering until the old leaf-pairs are fully replaced.
Conservation
It is considered a threatened species in South Africa due to habitat loss, predation in urban areas, and collection for medicinal reasons.
