About
A spectacular and highly sought-after species, *Nepenthes edwardsiana* is notable for producing some of the largest pitchers and the most highly developed peristome ribs found in the genus. It is a climbing plant endemic to the highland slopes of Borneo.

Morphology
The plant is a climbing species with a stem that can reach 15 m in length. Leaves are lanceolate, up to 30 cm long by 7 cm wide, with a petiole up to 15 cm long. The pitchers are among the largest in the genus, sometimes exceeding 50 cm in height and 15 cm in width, though typically around 30 cm high. The peristome is cylindrical and up to 30 mm wide, featuring very highly developed teeth and ribs up to 20 mm in diameter. The pitcher lid is cordate, up to 8 cm wide, and the pitchers range in color from light yellow to dark red.
Distribution & habitat
Endemic to the highland slopes of Mount Kinabalu and the eastern side of neighboring Mount Tambuyukon in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. It has an altitudinal distribution of 1,500–2,700 m above sea level.
History & etymology
The type specimen was collected on Mount Kinabalu in 1858 by Hugh Low and Spenser St. John. It was formally described in 1859 by Joseph Dalton Hooker, who named the species after George Edwardes. Later, it was reinstated as a valid species in John Muirhead Macfarlane's 1908 monograph.
