*Nepenthes ephippiata*, known as the saddle-leaved pitcher-plant, is a tropical species endemic to Borneo, notable for its characteristic saddle-shaped pitchers and its habitat in montane forests.
Field notes
Morphology
The species exhibits a characteristic saddle shape in its pitchers. Non-climbing plants from the Hose Mountains may have less decurrent leaf attachment than specimens from Central Kalimantan, but the saddle shape is fully developed in climbing plants.
Distribution & habitat
Endemic to Borneo, specifically found in the Hose Mountains of central Sarawak, as well as Mount Raya and Bukit Lesung in Kalimantan, growing in montane forest from 1,000 to 1,900 meters elevation.
History & etymology
Described by B. H. Danser in 1928 in his monograph, "The Nepenthaceae of the Netherlands Indies". The epithet ephippiata comes from Latin, meaning "saddle cloth".
