Morphology

The plant is a climbing species with cylindrical stems (5–7 mm thick) and lanceolate leaves up to 30 cm long and 5 cm wide. Lower pitchers are obliquely ovate (up to 7 cm high, 2.5 cm wide) with fringed wings and a glandular inner surface. Upper pitchers are shortly infundibular to tubulose, potentially reaching 15 cm high and 3 cm wide, featuring two narrow wings and a glandular inner surface. The lid is nearly round, up to 3.5 cm long and 3.25 cm wide.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to New Guinea, found on both the north and south sides of the main central mountains of Papua Province, ranging from sea level up to an intermediate elevation of 1,300 m.

History & etymology

First collected on October 7, 1909, by Lucien Sophie Albert Marie von Römer. Although initially described in 1916, the species was formally described by B. H. Danser in 1928, based on specimens collected by Willem Marius Docters van Leeuwen.
