Nepenthes *ventricosa* is a tropical pitcher plant endemic to the Philippines. It is classified as a highland species, found at elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 metres above sea level.

Morphology

The plant features numerous pitchers that can grow up to 20 centimetres in height. These pitchers exhibit a distinctive waisted middle and range in color from ivory white to red. The species is closely related to *N. burkei* and *N. sibuyanensis*, but can be distinguished by its smaller mouth and generally thinner peristome.

Distribution & habitat

This species is endemic to the Philippines, specifically recorded from the islands of Luzon, Panay, and Sibuyan. It is a highland species, thriving at elevations ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 metres above sea level.

History & etymology

The species name *ventricosa* originates from Neo-Latin, meaning 'having a swelling on one side.' It is taxonomically related to *N. burkei* and *N. sibuyanensis*.
