Known as the watermelon peperomia, *Peperomia argyreia* is a highly decorative evergreen perennial prized for its striking foliage, featuring asymmetrical oval leaves marked with curved silver stripes.

Morphology

The plant grows to about 20 cm tall and broad, featuring asymmetrical oval green leaves that are slightly fleshy and strikingly marked with curved silver stripes, complemented by red stems. Tiny green flower spikes appear in summer.

Distribution & habitat

Native to northern South America, including Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Venezuela.

Cultivation notes

It is generally grown as a houseplant in temperate areas, requiring bright light but avoiding direct sun, and maintaining a minimum temperature of 10 °C (50 °F).

The specific epithet argyreia is Latin for "silvery".
