Also known as yellow trumpets or pale pitcher plant, *Sarracenia alata* is a notable endemic species of the southeastern United States, recognized for its varied floral colors and tendency to grow tall pitchers.

Field notes

Morphology

The species exhibits varied floral coloring, ranging from cream to white, greenish, yellow, or reddish. Compared to *Sarracenia rubra*, *Sarracenia alata* often displays a pinstripe pattern of veining and tends to grow taller pitchers.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to the southeastern United States, with an eastern range extending from East Louisiana across the Gulf Coastline of Mississippi and into West Alabama, and a western range from East Texas into West Louisiana.

Ecology

The plant thrives in consistently saturated, nutrient-poor soils, preferring open wetlands typically found in longleaf pine savannas.
