The genus *Schefflera sp* comprises 13 species native to New Zealand and various Pacific islands. The popular houseplant form, often called 'Schefflera,' is now scientifically classified as *Heptapleurum arboricola*.

New Zealand and various Pacific islands, including New Caledonia, Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa, and the Loyalty Islands.
History & etymology
The genus was named in honor of Johann Peter Ernst von Scheffler, a physician and botanist who contributed plants to Gottfried Reyger for Reyger's book, Tentamen Florae Gedanensis.
