About

A notable perennial carnivorous plant, *Utricularia reniformis* is distinctive for its kidney-shaped foliage and upright raceme of zygomorphic flowers marked with striking gold and purple stripes.

Morphology

The foliage leaves are kidney-shaped, about 7 cm wide. The flowers are arranged on an upright raceme and are zygomorphic, featuring two vertical gold stripes edged with purple on the upper half of the corolla.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to Brazil, typically found between altitudes of 750 m and 1,900 m in its southern range, and up to 2,500 m in its northern range.

History & etymology

Described by Augustin Saint-Hilaire in 1830.
